So in these GuruTips videos I give you information as to how to be a well-rounded actor. From marketing tips to managers and IMDb to day jobs, these career tips are exactly that- for your career. But… that’s not all we are. I’m Ajarae, the actress not the actress named Ajarae.
We’re people too! And sometimes we can lose sight of that. Usually this time of year people start taking off and leaving town for the holidays which can lead to some stressful thoughts- What happens if I get an audition? Should I leave town? Will my agent drop me if I go home over New Years?
A very prominent commercial casting director here in LA once was approached by a client who wanted to hold callbacks on Christmas Eve, and you know what? She turned them away. She understood that actors want to have a life too, and how many actors (not to mention agents and casting assistants), want to leave their families, and maybe even postpone vacations, for a callback? Priorities.
This is why today I’m showing you exactly how to do the thing we always get weary of- how to GET. A. LIFE.

I hope this helped actors. Remember you deserve to have a life, and you are allowed to have a life and interests outside of being an actor (how do you think I started this website!?). So find a hobby that has nothing to do with the arts, pick up a new skill, go skype with your family across the country, just go do something for yourself, because you deserve it too.

Have a burning question you want me to cover in an episode of GuruTips for Actors? I’ll be answering YOUR questions the last Tuesday of every month, so be sure to send them in to [email protected]!
My hobby I want to get better at: knitting 😉

Ajarae is an actress and entrepreneur living in Los Angeles. She founded Workshop Guru in 2012, which expanded into Acting Resource Guru in 2017, to help actors save time and money on classes and workshops, and give them a powerful voice by publishing anonymous actor reviews of acting schools, casting directors, talent agencies and management companies. You can see Ajarae on shows like ABC’s SCANDAL, REVENGE, PRIVATE PRACTICE, and THE CATCH, CBS’s THE McCARTHYS, 2 BROKE GIRLS, and NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, NBC’s DAYS OF OUR LIVES, TNT’s PERCEPTION, I'M SORRY on TruTV, and more. She raised over $17,000 and co-created an action comedy television show called SMACK Unit, currently has national commercials running, and has cultivated rewarding relationships with her agents and manager.
