How To Handle Survivor’s Guilt
Today’s video comes from a question one of my friends asked. He’s had a good amount of success recently after over 10 years of solid hard work, and it’s finally paying off! But when we spoke, he revealed that’s he’s actually feeling a little guilty! I was confused, because with all of the success he’s having, how could he not be ecstatic!? But then I realized – it’s the “actor version” of survivor’s guilt!
What is survivor’s guilt? And… how exactly can it apply to actors?
Don’t worry, I explain exactly what I mean in this week’s video, along with steps you can take to avoid and overcome it.
I did a bit of research when working on this video. Why is it that we may feel guilty over our own success? Why do you think?
It’s a tough pill to swallow, but I promise you – you can handle it! Help your family, give back to your community, help others with their auditions! When you can, do what you can, and remember that your success is your own, and did not come at the expense of others.
Do you have a burning question you want me to cover in an episode of GuruTips for Actors? I’ll be answering YOUR questions the last Tuesday of every month, so be sure to send them in to questions@workshopguru.com!
What a problem to have! A great problem, but still… a problem!
