How To Avoid Stalkers As An Actor

A few weeks ago, before the #GuruReviewChallenge, I began a two-part answer to a #GuruTips viewer’s question regarding online harassment and potential stalking. She asked what she could do to cultivate a fan base while avoiding sketchy fans, and specifically what to do if strangers obsessively comment on her page (or worse).
This is a serious problem, so I’m getting serious in my answer. I previously mentioned how a member of a Facebook group for actors said I “should be shot.” Does this qualify as a threat and should I go to the police? I explain this and more in this week’s video, so click below to watch!

Remember, even though the burden of proof for stalking in the law is pretty high, there’s nothing stopping you from reporting posts, blocking users, and deleting them from your communications.
But really, the most important thing here is your safety, so if you have even a feeling that there’s a credible threat to your or your family, or you have questions about whether or not there is a threat (or if it is credible), go to the authorities. They are there to answer your questions and help you out.

Watching your video is a major reason why I don’t involve myself in social media with the exception of Facebook and with it, I restrict the content that’s posted on my page. As an actor, I don’t feel a need to spread myself thin to the rest of the world to receive recognition or get an agent. There are backdoor alternatives for doing that. Good advice, Thanks!
